Wind Mitigation

In August 2007, due to previous years of active hurricanes in Florida that caused significant wind damage, the Florida Building Commission adopted substantial amendments to roofing regulations of the Florida Building Code.

Homes built prior to 2002, with an insured value of $300,000 or more and located in a High Velocity Hurricane Zone must have mandatory roof-to-wall connection upgrades made when the roof is replaced. The barrier island in Indian River County is located in a High Velocity Hurricane Zone.
